Since 1954, Lake Oswego residents and neighbors have been experiencing the Christmas cheer of the brightly lighted ships parading along the Willamette River during the holiday season.  Starting out as one lone sailboat adorned with bows of green ribbon along its rails, the Christmas Ship Fleet now averages 55 to 60 flotillas ranging in size from 18’ boats to ships over 50’ in length.

While the fleets go out almost every night for two weeks, this season’s excursion to Lake Oswego begins on December 20, 2014.   The Willamette and Columbia Fleets will assemble in front of RiverPlace Marina at 5:00 p.m. to begin their journey down the river.  Along the way motorists and homeowners display their support and appreciation of the performance by flashing their porch lights and headlights.

The decorated ships are expected to arrive in Lake Oswego between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m.  The ending point is George Rogers Park where the ships will remain until about 7:30 p.m. then turn around and head back to Portland.  The ships are on the water for a total of approximately 3 and one-half hours.  To track when the fleet will reach the Lake Oswego viewing areas, spectators can find real time updates via tweets from ship crew members on the Christmas Ship Parade Twitter feed or posted on their webpage at
