The Willamette Shore Trolley is ready for summer after a winter of extensive maintenance and track repairs along the scenic riverfront line between Lake Oswego and South Waterfront.  Regular runs for the summer months began this week.

 

The biggest upgrade occurred in the Dunthorpe neighborhood, at the intersection where the line crosses Riverwood Road, which used to be a bumpy transition where the road asphalt was shaped around the rails.

 

The track through the upgraded intersection has been completely rebuilt and has been embedded inside steel and concrete road panels similar to those found on a main road crossing.

 

One vintage feature of the intersection still remains:  the iconic traffic signal light and bell, which is among the oldest of its kind still in operation.

 

The trolley makes two runs per day on weekends until July, then makes four runs per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 7th to September 3rd.
