According to one ranking, Portland is one of nation's fittest cities coming in at number 3 (moving up from number 7 last year).  Based upon the annual study conducted by the American College of Sport Medicine covering the 50 largest metro areas in the U.S., Portland is behind only Minneapolis (#1) and Washington, D.C. (#2).

In determining a city’s fitness level, the researchers looked at community resources and policies that encourage healthy and fit lifestyles as well as preventive health behaviors and levels of chronic disease conditions.
